Membership Spotlight: Tom and Esprits

NoVA Lotus Club member Tom owns two Esprits, an 81 Essex and a 91 SE.

The Essex is a 1981 model listed as number 37. The car came over through Loose imports as a grey market car. It was reportedly routed through Switzerland and found its way to the states with some Federalization modifications made to bumper supports and emissions. Essex 37 has all the Essex valve covers, Panasonic Stereo on the ceiling, red interior, and Lotus Essex F1 decal set. Tom is the 3rd owner of the car.

Tom also owns a 91 Esprit SE that was originally built for Zack Zarcadoolas who raced the Lotus X180Rs in the Early 90’s. As Zach’s road car, it was lovingly cared for and passed on to a Connecticut Dentist, then to a Maryland accountant, and was finally restored by Tom in 2007.

Get Your Lotus Out 11: Sunday, May 1st, 2016

9 - 11:30 am at Katie’s (lower parking lot) in Great Falls Village, VA.

NoVA Lotus Club holds a Get Your Lotus Out (GYLO) event twice a year. This is our 6th year, and the 11th time we have held the event. It’s an abbreviated, one-marque British car show. We have a popular vote for the best Lotus, and we give out some prizes. Since we hold the event on a Sunday, we don’t have to complete with the throng of people and cars that would be at Katie’s on a Saturday.

Please RSVP to let us know how many spaces to reserve for NoVA Lotus.

The after-GYLO cookout!

After the event, NoVA Lotus members Jenn & Tim Glahn have again volunteered to hold a cookout at their home in Burke, VA. The Glahn’s report the neighborhood kids, young and old, have been asking about the event.

We ask those attending to bring a side dish. (We seems to be OK on beer supply & desserts.) Please RSVP via email, so we know how many people to expect for the GYLO, and the cookout.

A few words from Mark Franke: NoVA Lotus Club President

Lotus season is finally here!

The NoVA Lotus website is up and running – just put the following into your browser: novalotus.club

As of this morning, we have 49 registered users. Please take a look at the site, and register on the site to be able to read our most recent newsletter. The website also has an event calendar, and a forum, where you can post pictures, ask questions, and communicate with fellow members. We have a good number of club events, and other items of general interest, on the calendar. Members are already planning drives via posting on the website.

A couple of reminders – the first big British car show is coming up on Sunday, April 24th – Britain on the Green. This is a great show with hundreds of British cars there. Beautiful setting. So far I know that Bob,

Jenn, Tim and myself will be there for sure.

You’ll find what you need to register by clicking on the calendar item on our website. Register before April 11th, for $25. After that, or at the gate it will be $35. The show field at Gunston Hall opens at 9:30AM.

We hope for a good turnout of Lotus at the show, because it will be fun. Additionally we could qualify Lotus as our own subgroup, and have our own trophy or trophies, depending on how many Lotus pre- register. Jenn & Tim are bringing the rare Volvo-Lotus tailgate-vehicle. If you will let us know via email, or posting to the calendar link on the NoVA Lotus website, we can have adequate food available for the

Lotus contingent. Bring your own chairs!

Just a week later, we will have our Spring 2016 Get Your Lotus Out event – GYLO 11. We’ve done this 10 times before, and we’re starting to get the hang of this! We will hold this event at the Katie’s lower parking lot, in Great Falls, VA, on Sunday, May 1st, 9:00AM – 11:30AM. We generally have 25 or more

Lotus in attendance, with a really good vari- ety of Lotus models represented. Last fall, we added a cookout at the Glahns’ house in Burke,

VA afterwards, and we had a great time. This was so popular, we will do it again. Please RSVP if you are coming to GYLO, and (more impor- tantly) RSVP for the cookout. We want to make sure we have adequate supplies of burgers and hot dogs at the cookout. We ask that attendees bring a side dish – we should have plenty of main dishes, desserts and refreshments.

This looks to be a great season for NoVA Lotus.

We hope to see all of you. Keep letting us know how we can improve.
